Region of Proposed Piñon Canyon Expansion
Southeast Colorado Canyons, Prairie and History

This is an overlooked, yet biologically unique area of the Midwest, located at the junction of north/south and east/west boundaries of major ecosystems, providing an opportunity for species to occur at the edges of their known ranges. The states of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Kansas border this corner of Colorado and the U.S. Army's Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site exists within this region.

For details on this unique region and the affects of the proposed expansion see the "Piñon Canyon, Southeast Colorado" page.
The Red Desert of Wyoming
The Red Desert of Wyoming

It has been home to Native Americans, a crossroad of the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trails, and an important area for huge pronghorn and elk herds. The geology is complex - - wild with sand dunes and weathered landmarks masking vast oil and gas deposits.

Read more about this fascinating environment on the "Red Desert" portfolio page.
Sandhill Cranes in the Valley of the Dunes
Valley of the Dunes

Featured in our 2005 book of the same title, this high mountain valley is rich with natural features: the headwaters of the Rio Grande; 700 foot high dunes at Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve; The Nature Conservancy's Medano Zapata Ranch; and historic Baca Ranch. Sandhill cranes and other migrating birds depend on varied wetlands throughout the Valley.

More information on this unique area is on the "Valley of the Dunes" portfolio page.
A Gathering of Horses
A Gathering of Horses

This collection reflects our deep connection with the American West. Cowboys and horses amid sagebrush and the high prairie are reminiscent of early days on the range. Here is a selection from our series, "A Gathering of Horses".

For details on this project, see the "Gathering of Horses" portfolio page.
Tropical Rainforest
Tropical Rainforest

We’ve traveled to the tropical rainforest of Central America four times. The heat, humidity, insects, and logistics of photographing this part of the world bring challenges, but - as with this trip - it can be a rewarding adventure.

For more information, see the "Tropical Rainforest" portfolio page.
PrairieVision: Images from a Sea of Grass
PrairieVision: Images from a Sea of Grass

An exhibit in the Conservation Gallery at The Wildlife Experience Museum features twenty archival photographs by Wendy Shattil & Bob Rozinski, who have worked extensively to document the elusive prairie. Their menagerie includes evocative images of bison, endangered black-footed ferrets, clusters of baby burrowing owls and prairie dogs, and waterfowl.
